One of the most played songs on my playlist right now is “Abide”. I love it! What a reminder! And something about a song that sticks.
Think of the last bunch of fresh cut flowers you received. Or gave. Or saw in the store. Those flowers do not stay fresh. As a matter of fact, they are dying beauty. No amount of water or little additive packets will keep them alive long. They wilt and some we toss them.
This is a picture of us without Him! With no life source we will soon wilt and fade away. Running from day to day looking and searching for the next beauty treatment or get rich quick scheme or new car to make us feel good. But it’s only momentary, if that. All of these are surface items.
In John 15:5 and 6 we have Jesus telling His disciples a story like I just shared with you. And it’s still true today. That parable was for them and for them and for us and for now!
What does it look like when we abide? How do we abide? Psalm 1 tells us we must be planted by the Living Water. John 7:37-39 tells us Jesus is the living is the Living Water. 1 Corinthians 4:2 tells us that it is required we be found faithful.
There are many scriptures that tell us how to abide. I encourage you to search them out. We must pray without ceasing, stay in our word (so that it stays in us freshly), experience pruning and come out with fruit that shows in our daily walk. Of course that is only a small list of what it should look like.
A transaction with Jesus in our past with no ongoing expression is a false transaction. There is a verse lots of us like to use in defense. “God knows my heart.” But truly, that should bring a reverent fear. He truly knows our hearts and the scriptures also say the heart of a man is wicked. He knew if we made an agreement to love Him out of emotion or devotion.
We are saved by grace through faith. However faith is an action word. We must walk it daily.
When we abide in Him and He in us our lives show it! Abiding is depending on Him for our everything.
I hope this has given you a morsel to think on today. And that remember He loves you and so do I! Blessings! Happy Thankful season! Kerin ❤️
