I don’t mean sleep. Rest. It’s a command from God. Rest. Does that make me do it? Didn’t use to. I said “I sleep” but inside it’s always been a battle. We have begun to learn to rest properly the past 4 years. People make comments like “you had a vacation. I am glad you’re all rested up” or “you need to rest more” but how do you rest when there is no help? I have experienced hearing the diagnosis of fibromyalgia in the past few years. Well, for so long now I have run at such a pace that I never rest long enough to refresh. Your eyes need rest. So do your ears and hands and all of your being. I am reminded this morning that rest is part of your worship. You can’t be on a screen or in a book all day. You can’t listen to something all day. Your body shouldn’t move all day. The rest is as important as the work you do. God created days and nights to be separate so we wouldn’t run our selves to death. My opinion. Rest doesn’t mean being lazy. And it isn’t about balance. Balance doesn’t exist. At least in my experience. Psalm 23 says He makes me lie down in green pastures and He leads me beside still waters. There is no angst in the pasture and the water isn’t a nosy rapid. Certain seasons rest comes differently than others. Whatever it looks like for you, I pray you find it today. Even if it’s 10 minutes at the time. Baby steps. Those count too, and if you do them enough (practice), pretty soon it will come easier.
