One of God’s first creations was a wife. Genesis 2:18 says “Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” (ESV) then in vs 23 Adam says “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Married couples forget sometimes that we were created to be one. On the same team. Not opposing sides. Not made to compete. Compliment. Help. Not demand equality. Care for and look after one another’s needs. I have tried to imagine their first glimpse of one another. It says Adam was lonely. I wonder if the first time he looked at her he beamed ear to ear? “Finally!” Maybe? God suited them for one another. Why wouldn’t they be excited? I still get giddy every time I hear my husband getting near. Truly the other half of my flesh approaching. Complete in God and whole with one another. I look forward to each moment with him. And I thank God every day for the life He allows us to live together! Do you remember the vows you spoke to one another in the presence of the Lord? Maybe lit the unity candle as a symbol or put dirt from 2 vessels into 1? Let us seek to hold fast to the vows we made to one another and to God. Let us live lives worthy of the call of husband and wife! Praise the Lord for unity and love in two people becoming one flesh! Blessings! Kerin
